Obsidian Dawn

obsidian dawn is a crazy mix of genres – part rock, rap and r&b. i’ve heard some compare it to outkast in that regard. it’s a song i often play live and people always dig. the lyrics are somewhat reminiscent of “hey joe” from jimi hendrix. wonder if he would have written anything that sounds like this?

obsidian dawn

love
what were you thinking of
what were you drinking from
the well of what never was
were you dreaming of
some other girl
some faraway world
when it all unfurled
then you wake
and she’s packed a suitcase
to meet some dude in st. louis
and cause you knew this
you’d seen i before
you curse her name
and pound your fist on the floor
and cause you don’t
know what’s ahead
you scream out loud
that love is dead
to you

lover fans the fire
til the early morn
dancing on
obsidian dawn
so you can fantasize her
when the ember’s gone
hung up on
what went wrong
with

love

it’s funny how things begin
it’s funny how things disintegrate
when all the love turns into hate
were you picking on
her every move
her lack of groove
what did that bullshit prove?
then you wake
and it’s all behind you
didn’t need another woman
to remind you
or the priest to find you
this is hell for sure
you curse her name
and run out the back door
and cause you don’t
know what’s ahead
you scream out loud
that love is dead
to you

lover fans the fire
til the early morn
dancing on
obsidian dawn
so you can fantasize her
when the ember’s gone
hung up on
what went wrong
with
love
